With 5.7 seconds left in overtime against the Bullard-Fresno Knights, Madera’s Bria Fernandes calmly stepped to the free throw line with a chance at the win.

Fernandes, the Madera girls basketball team’s leading scorer, went through her routine and swished two free throws for a 55-54 overtime lead.

Bullard called a time out and missed a game-winning 3-pointer to give the Coyotes their second girls basketball victory over the Knights since joining the County/Metro Athletic Conference four years ago.

“I was stressing because I didn’t want to miss,” Fernandes said. “I just knew I had to do my routine and make it.” ...
