Two days after facing a Div. I rival, the Madera Coyotes softball team was back on the field Thursday with a doubleheader against last year’s Div. I runner-up El Diamante-Visalia.
Although El Diamante was without two of its best players — Rylee Pierce and Baylee Jensen — the Coyotes still wanted to get a sweep to make a statement in the eventual Div. I playoffs in May.
The Coyotes and starting pitcher Emily Martinez were dominant in a 9-0 victory in game one and Alyssa Jantzen pitched the Coyotes to a 4-2 victory in the second game at Zimmerman Field.
“I thought both pitchers did well,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “We talked about having focus between pitches and making quality pitches that our defense can make a play on. We did a real good job of that today.” ...
