Boys and girls playoffs begin this week

For Madera girls soccer head coach Garrett Perez, the perfect time to have a team playing its best soccer is right around playoff time.

Although the Coyotes suffered a six-game losing streak in the County/Metro Athletic Conference that included five straight shutout losses, Perez feels his team is heading in the right direction with its play in the last two games to close out the regular season.

After giving undefeated conference champ Bullard-Fresno (19-5-1 overall, 10-0 CMAC) a big-time scare in a 3-2 loss, the Coyotes (11-10-5, 2-5-3) finished out CMAC play with a 1-0 win over cross-town rival Madera South (9-10-3, 2-5-3) on the Stallions’ senior night in Memorial Stadium.

Both teams begin Div. II playoffs Wednesday with the No. 9 Coyotes traveling to No. 8 Monache-Porterville while the No. 6 Stallions will host No. 11 Tulare Western at 6 p.m...
