After advancing to the Central Baseball Classic championship game Saturday, the Madera Coyotes needed a pick-me-up before beginning County/Metro Athletic Conference play on Friday.

The Coyotes got a nonleague 9-3 victory over Sierra on Tuesday at Mel Parker Field, but head coach Andy Underwood said the game didn’t serve its purpose.

“It wasn’t a great game,” he said. “A win is a win. I was looking at this as a tune-up game for us to improve to get better and do things we haven’t been doing right. We didn’t improve on those things. A lot of things got untouched.”

Scotty Roberts continued his hot hitting with two hits, including his first home run of the season. He drove in two and scored three runs. Josh Wiles went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Michael Say also went 3-for-3 with three runs scored...
