The Madera Coyote softball team opened the Easter Softball Classic at Buchanan-Clovis on Saturday with two losses.

However, the Coyotes closed the tournament with three straight victories, including a 6-5 walk-off win against Golden West-Visalia and a 3-1 win over Chowchilla on Tuesday.

“We just need to keep taking those steps forward,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “I think we were able to avoid those big backwards steps that we have had. We still need to work on our situational hitting. We hurt ourselves at times today, but our bunting was better. “

Leadoff batter Mariah Davis was the offensive leader for the Coyotes. She was 5-for-8 with three runs scored in the Tuesday games. She ended up batting .529 for the tournament with five runs scored and three stolen bases...
