OAKHURST — After nine days off without a game, the Madera Coyote girls basketball team came out, as expected, rusty.
It took until midway through the fourth quarter for the Coyotes to shake off the rust to pull away from the Yosemite-Oakhurst Badgers on Tuesday for a 52-44 non-league victory.
“The layoff affected us in the first quarter,” Madera head coach Jason Smith said. “We looked like we have been off for a while the whole game.”
Chayla Green gave the Coyotes the lead they wouldn’t relinquish, putting back Antranetta Stickman’s missed free throw for a 44-42 lead. The Coyotes outscored the Badgers 8-2 from that point on as Yosemite continually missed 3-point shots. Yosemite went 1-for-29 on 3-point attempts for the game...
