The Madera Coyote softball team took the early lead against the Central-Fresno Grizzlies, but the Grizzlies got a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning and didn’t look back in a 5-1 quarterfinal victory at Central.
Mariah Davis, who set two Coyote single-season records, opened the game Friday with a double and came in to score on a groundout to give the Coyotes the early lead.
However, Robyn Alvara hit a two-run no-doubt-about-it homer in the bottom half of the inning for the 2-1 lead. Central added three more runs in the fourth for the victory.
