The Madera Coyotes baseball team and pitcher Alec Gamboa held off challenges from the San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno Panthers for eight innings, but it was the ninth that led to a loss.

Gamboa was efficient for eight full innings and limited the Panthers to just one run on four hits with six strikeouts.

However, the first four batters in the ninth reached base and a 1-1 game turned into a 5-2 San Joaquin Memorial County/Metro Athletic Conference victory Tuesday in Mel Parker Field.

“We had runners in scoring position, but couldn’t get that hit,” head coach Andy Underwood said. “We just didn’t come up with the hit. We were confident in the guys going up, but couldn’t get that hit.” ...
