Coyotes escape with comeback win

When the Edison-Fresno girls’ volleyball team stepped onto the court of Joe Flores Gym to face Madera, the Tigers were looking to upset the top team in the County/Metro Athletic Conference.

While the Tigers won two out of the first three sets, Madera head coach Robyn Royston wouldn’t let herself, or more importantly, her team panic when the chips were down.

Despite trailing by three points midway through the fourth set, Royston’s calm demeanor trickled down to her players as the Coyotes courageously fought back to force a fifth set.

The Coyotes rose to the occasion and with a 15-12 win in the final set, Madera (26-7, 8-0 CMAC) avoided its first league loss Thursday night in a nail-biting 3-2 (20-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-22, 15-12) win over Edison (13-18, 4-4)...
