Coyotes end 21-game league losing streak

Pigs apparently do fly and Madera head basketball coach Mike Hawkins does smile — it’s just been a long time since he has had reason to.

After suffering through two years and 21 consecutive losses in County/Metro Athletic Conference play, the Coyotes (5-19, 1-7) put an end to this seemingly improbable drought Thursday night against the Sanger Apaches (8-17, 1-7) by running away with an impressive 49-28 win.

It was two years to the day that the Coyotes last won a league game and now the healing of the program can hopefully begin and chart a new course.

“We came out playing hard from the tip-off and seemed to play with more urgency than usual,” Hawkins said showing a sense of relief at having ended to losing streak. “I told them this was a winnable game for us and they responded.” ...
