In the season opener for both teams, the Madera Coyote softball coach wasn’t sure what to expect from her team in a doubleheader against former Tri-River Athletic Conference rival Clovis West.
The Golden Eagles are coming off a Valley Championship game appearance while the Coyotes advanced to the semifinals of the Div. I playoffs last year.
The Golden Eagles pounded out 14 hits against two Coyote pitchers and won the first game 8-4 Wednesday.
“They are a good hitting team,” head coach Judy Shaubach said. “We made some critical mistakes. We knew they were going to hit the ball and made some defensive mistakes that compounded the problem.” ...
