Coyotes defense keeps Apaches off scoreboard

While the defense for the Madera girls soccer team clearly showed up for a County/Metro Athletic Conference match with defending Div. II runner-up Sanger, the Coyotes’ scoring drought continued against the Apaches.

Neither team could find the back of the net Wednesday night in a 0-0 overtime tie in Memorial Stadium that left Madera head coach Garrett Perez searching for answers.

“We’re just lacking that finishing touch and nobody’s really finishing right now,” Perez said. “We haven’t scored more than one goal in any of our league games and it’s tough to beat these teams by one goal. It’s just disappointing because we’re failing to score and constantly putting pressure on our defense by expecting them to be perfect.”

Led by Mackenzie Malm, Melissa Dusan, Holly Perez and Megan Diaz along with goalkeeper Angelica Hernandez, the Madera defense did everything in its power to keep the Coyotes in the game...
