SANGER — The Madera Coyote girls basketball team jumped to a 14-point lead in the first quarter and put the rest of the game on cruise control Thursday night for a 54-41 County/Metro Athletic Conference victory over the host Sanger Apaches.
The Coyotes took control of the game with a 19-6 first quarter and opened up a lead of as many as 23 points for the victory.
“We played really well in the first quarter, but played poorly the rest of the way,” head coach Jason Smith said. “ There’s no other word to describe it. The defense was chasing and fouling too much because we were running to the girl instead of to a spot.”
