Coyotes clinch CMAC title and earn No. 2 playoff seed

With the Central Section baseball playoffs beginning today, the reigning Div. II champ Madera is ready to defend its title after earning a share of the County/Metro Athletic Conference championship and a No. 2 seed in the playoffs.

The Coyotes (22-10, 10-5 CMAC) await the winner of today’s first round playoff game between No. 10 Hanford at No. 7 Sunnyside and will play Thursday at home.

Heading into the CMAC finale against Madera South on Friday, the Coyotes trailed in the league standings by one game behind San Joaquin Memorial-Fresno.

With a 1-0 win over the Stallions on Eddie Chapa Field, Madera not only claimed a share of the CMAC championship but also leapfrogged the No. 3 Panthers —which suffered a 4-2 loss to the Sanger — in the playoff seedings. Tulare Western — a team the Coyotes beat in the semifinals last season — was given the No. 1 seed in the playoffs as the teams will be vying for a chance to play at Visalia’s Recreation Park in the Valley Championship game on May 23...
