Coyotes capture CMAC title

When the referee blew his whistle to end the soccer match between the Madera Coyotes and Bullard-Fresno Knights to decide the County/Metro Athletic Conference championship, Coyote head coach Chris Baca received his first-ever Gatorade shower after a 2-0 victory over the Knights.

Although it wasn’t “The” Gatorade shower — it was water in a PowerAde jug — the celebration went on as the Coyotes (15-5-6, 7-2-1 CMAC) won their first league championship since 2001.

“That was my first Gatorade shower,” Baca said. “I’ve never had one before.”

After 80 heart-wrenching, intense minutes Thursday night, both teams headed to overtime scoreless...
