Coyotes begin defense with No. 2 seed

The Madera Coyote baseball team will begin its defense of the Central Section Div. II Valley Championship in an identical spot on Thursday.

Last season the No.2-seeded Coyotes defeated Hanford West, 13-4 and Tulare Western, 6-5 in nine innings. In the Valley Championship game Madera defeated top-seed San Joaquin Memorial, 6-0, to win the title.

This year, the path is pretty similar. On Saturday, the Coyotes were given the No. 2 seed while Memorial was a No. 3 seed. Tulare Western earned the top seed.

The Coyotes and Panthers tied for the County/Metro Athletic Conference championship and the Panthers defeated the Coyotes two out of three. However, the seeding committee determined that Madera’s strength of schedule was better, therefore getting the higher seed...
