The last time the Madera baseball team faced Bullard-Fresno, the Coyotes suffered a forgettable 7-2 loss to the defending Div. I section champion Knights.
With starting sophomore pitcher Alec Gamboa throwing on the mound Tuesday, the Coyotes (18-7) played differently this time and pulled out a 3-1 County/Metro Athletic Conference win over the Knights on Mel Parker Field.
In 6 1/3 innings, the hard-throwing lefty Gamboa allowed three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts against the conference-leading Knights (10-2 CMAC).
“Today, we had a better pitcher than they did,” said Coyote head coach Andy Underwood. “Alec’s stuff is very good when he’s in the strike zone and getting ahead of guys in the count. In the last game against them, we gave up seven runs on 36 pitches and they were hot when we played them.” ...
