The Madera Coyote girls volleyball team suffered a tough loss last week.

It wasn’t a loss of a game, but to a player. Brielle Hefner injured her knee during practice and may be out of action for another week.

After a loss to Bullard-Fresno on Thursday, the Coyotes needed a win against Madera South on Tuesday to get them back on top of the County/Metro Athletic Conference.

The Stallions have had injuries of their own to deal with and weren’t going to let the Coyotes walk away with the victory. Madera South head coach Nate Perez learned earlier in the day that the school’s single-season record holder for kills and blocks in a season, Justine Williams, was cleared by the trainer to play. She has missed the last three weeks with a shoulder injury...
