Coyotes back on track with win over Sunnyside

The Madera baseball team struggled at the plate in a pair of losses to open up Country/Metro Athletic Conference play, so head coach Andy Underwood and assistant Curtis Pasma took a unique approach — throwing to their hitters themselves.

The results of the experiment are in as the Coyotes (7-6, 2-2) have now won two straight, the latest a 7-3 win over Sunnyside-Fresno (5-6, 2-2) on Tuesday by banging out 25 hits and 19 runs in the past two games.

“We were not getting the job done at the plate, especially in critical situations, so Curtis and I started pitching to the players,” Underwood said. “I’m not sure if that is what got us hitting again, but the team has done a good job the past two games.

Underwood and Pasma both played together for the Coyotes and went on to play professionally after outstanding careers at Fresno State and the University of the Pacific, respectively...
