Coyotes and Stallions rivalry grows

What started four years ago as a pre-league match up between cross-town rivals Madera and Madera South has now been elevated to new heights.

For the first time in the school’s history, both teams will battle it out as County/Metro Athletic Conference foes Friday night in the fifth annual Stadium Road Showdown at Memorial Stadium with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m.

Although the short history of the game has been on the Coyotes side, the Stallions stunned an undefeated Madera team in last year’s meeting to win the coveted bandsaw trophy for the first time in four tries.

Madera South rode a wave of emotion heading into last’s year game as the Stallion defense held the Coyotes’ high-scoring offense to just an Eloy Morales field goal. It also limited one of the Valley’s top running backs, Christian Ramirez, to a mere 69 yards after running for 839 yards in the previous four games...
