When Fresno State’s track and field head coach Scott Winsor recruits athletes, he asks them to adhere to a program based on attitude, commitment and perseverance.
Three Madera High alumni have bought into that philosophy, excelling both on the track and in the classroom.
Winsor said the athletes, Carina Mendoza, Ann Poythress and her brother Kevin Poythress, have made tremendous contributions to the team.
“Mendoza is in her first year competing in the steeplechase and she is coming along nicely,” Winsor said. “Ann Poythress is relatively new to the sport. Her first season was last year and she did very well in both cross country and track.” ...
