Coyote throwers look to advance

With a few perfect heaves in today’s Central Section Masters meet, Madera senior Sara Arias and junior Gabriela Stanford could be making their way to the CIF State Championships.

Both female throwers along with their Coyote teammate Arianna Thomas (300 meter hurdles) will be competing at Buchanan High today at 4:30 p.m. after qualifying in the North Area Meet on May 18. The Madera boys are led by Evan Whitlock (100 and 200 meter dash) along with Wally Grimes (400 meter dash) and Richard Sauceda (400 meter).

While both Arias and Stanford’s approaches are different when it comes to preparing, the results speak for themselves.

“When Sara’s out there, she’s having a good time and has kind of a care-free attitude while Gabriela kind of controls a little bit of what’s going on in the throwing ring,” Coyote head coach Russ Stanford said. “Gabriela takes it a little bit more methodical and calculates out a little bit more but it’s still a nice combination to have them both out there.” ...
