After facing the second best team in the Central Section, Madera Coyote softball coach Judy Shaubach was pleased with what she saw from her team, but knows there are still things that need to be worked on.

The Coyotes opened the season Tuesday, dropping a doubleheader to Clovis West-Fresno, who was ranked No. 2 in the Central Section, earlier in the day.

Madera lost the first game 6-1 and dropped the second game 2-1.

“We were more aggressive at the plate and had better approaches,” Shaubach said. “Our base running was excellent. We made a couple of defensive snafus. Again, we have a lot of young players in new positions.” ...
