Former Madera Coyote heavyweight wrestler Luis Contreras placed third at the Briar Cliff Open in St. Louis, Mo.
Contreras came into the tournament seeded fourth while his teammate Julis Anglickas was a third second. Anglickas finished the tournament in second place, losing to the top seed.
Contreras pinned his first opponent and won in the second round by a 6-2 decision. He advanced to the semifinals with a 7-3 victory in the quarterfinals. He lost 9-4 in the semifinals to the eventual champion Joe Kent, who wrestled unaffiliated, but was a former Missouri Baptist wrestler.
