City comes back to beat County

FRESNO — After the County squad jumped out to an early lead, the City team chipped away at the lead before scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the eighth inning to record a 6-5 victory at Fresno State’s Margie Wright Diamond in the 33rd annual City/County All-Star softball game.

Madera’s Mariah Davis, Rita Perez (Solis) and Alyssa Jantzen, along with Liberty’s Darbi Duke and coach Jamie Duke represented Madera schools in the Wednesday game.

“It was different playing with other people in the Valley,” Darbi Duke said. “It was fun. I wish I would have made more plays. It was cool and interesting. It was pretty awesome to play with some of the better players.”

Davis was thrown out at the plate in the fifth inning, although many who viewed the play, including Davis, thought that a tag wasn’t made and could have made a difference in the game...
