Former Stallion signs on to be Sunbirds shortstop

Former Madera South shortstop Jonathan Chapa went into his sophomore year at Reedley College last year entrenched as the starting shortstop.

During a February intersquad game, Chapa reached up for a foul ball near the left field line and dislocated his shoulder.

After 11 games of the 2013 season, Chapa decided to end his season to have surgery to tighten up his left shoulder. He was hitting .268 at the time with 11 hits and six runs scored.

“I didn’t want this to happen again and wanted to fix it before it got worse,” Chapa said. “If I didn’t get it fixed now, surgery would have been worse later. I have three anchors in my left shoulder and I’m almost fully recovered.” ...
