Champs crowned in first Ham Slam softball tourney

The first Ham Slam softball tournament sponsored by the Madera Parks and Community Services Department crowned champions in men’s and coed divisions this past weekend at the Sunrise Rotary Sports Complex. Members of each winning team received a holiday ham.

The men’s team of Bad Intentions went through tournament play undefeated and beat Those Guys 16-10 in the championship game.

In the coed division, Young Guns came out victorious 13-2 over the coed team of Bad Intentions. It was the second game between the two with Bad Intentions needing two wins and winning the first game 17-6, but losing the championship game.

Tournament coordinator Adam Romero of the Parks Department was happy to see so many teams enter the tournament late in the year. “We had 11 teams and that is a good start for this first ever tournament,” said Romero...
