With 8.7 seconds left in the game, Merced’s Lexus Pierce made two free throws to give the Bears a 47-46 lead against the Madera Coyotes girls basketball team in the season opener for both teams.

The Coyotes quickly got the ball inbounds, found the shooter and she nailed it.

Bria Fernandes hit the game-winning 3-pointer to send the fans home happy Tuesday night in Joe Flores Gym for a 49-47 victory.

However, the Coyotes blew a 12-point first quarter lead and trailed by as many as five in the fourth quarter to be able to get the comeback win...
