Fresno State’s baseball team hosted No. 1 ranked Stanford this past weekend at Beiden Field, showing flashes of brilliance, mixed with the stumbles of a team still learning game by game.

The Bulldogs (5-7) had a tall task Friday night as they faced the projected No. 1 pick in this year’s MLB draft, Stanford (10-1) junior Mark Appel.

Fresno’s sophomore sensation Aaron Judge proved that no task is too tall, as he turned around two of Appel’s 98 mph fastballs for towering homeruns over the left field wall, leading the Bulldogs to a 7-4 victory and Stanford’s first loss of the season.

“Appel is a great pitcher, I was just trying to see a fastball and get on base,” Judge said. “Also, I was trying to hit to the opposite field, because that is what we have been working on as a team, but somehow the ball went over the left field wall.”...
