Fresno State won’t be taking a time machine to the University of New Mexico this weekend, but it might feel like it, as the Lobos are playing throwback football.

The Bulldogs (5-3) travel to take on a New Mexico (4-4) option offense that averages 296.9 rushing yards per game and ranks fifth in the nation.

The Lobo passing offense, 55.9 yards per game, is dead last in the nation. That’s old-school.

Bulldog head coach Tim DeRuyter said Bob Davie, first-year New Mexico head coach, has meshed the option with some modern formations, shifts and motions that try to deceive the defense...
