When the first quarter buzzer sounded, the Madera South Stallions boys basketball team was a respectable five points behind the fifth ranked Bullard-Fresno Knights.
However, while the Knights were able to free substitute players, Madera South head coach Jody Sharp made just one substitution through the first three quarters. He had three players not suit up due to injuries and a couple others are dinged up.
“They have a lot of people to put on the floor,” Sharp said. “I don’t have numbers and they do. They can substitute five and I don’t have the ability to do that. I was proud of the kids in the first quarter because they battled.”
The Knights began to trap in the backcourt and the Stallions made bad decisions. The Stallions turned the ball over eight times in the second quarter, made just one field goal and scored just four points.
