Bullard hits past Stallions in opener

The Bullard-Fresno Knights banged out 14 hits and the Madera South Stallions baseball team couldn’t keep up Friday in a 7-1 loss to open the County/Metro Athletic Conference season in Eddie Chapa Field.

The Knights got a hit in every inning off of Stallions ace Donovan Bertoncini and reliever Cristian Ochoa.

Bullard pitcher Jacob Pizzo pitched into the seventh inning and struck out seven and allowed just three hits.

“It’s easier as a hitter when you’re ahead in the count,” Stallions head coach John Fernandez said. “Many times today, we got behind in the count and it was advantage batter. We just didn’t play good baseball today in all facets. Fly balls weren’t caught and we had a hard time playing catch. We allowed batters to get extra bases. Our approaches were bad. We have to have a plan when we go up to the plate.” ...
