After watching one of his boxers win the highly regarded Desert Showdown World Amateur Boxing Championships last summer in Indio, Madera’s Jesse Renteria, owner of Renteria’s Boxing Club, knew that 19-year-old welterweight fighter Chris Bautista was ready for the next level.
With a number of state and national titles under his belt, Bautista, of Madera, also caught the attention of an organization well known in the boxing world that had no problem signing the young talent who has been training and fighting at Renteria’s for the past 14 years.
Now, Bautista is set to fight in the limelight on Monday night in Salinas for Golden Boy Promotions, Inc., which his headed by none other than world renowned former professional boxer and six-division world champion Oscar “The Golden Boy” De La Hoya.
“It’s pretty exciting and it’s been a long time in the making,” Bautista said. “I’m just glad it finally happened because it’s a dream come true and something that I’ve been wanting since I was five years old. It’s surreal and it’s pretty crazy that it’s happening now.” ...
