In the unofficial kickoff for the National Tournament of Champions hosted by the Madera Bobby Sox, it was a glorious morning for the expediently assembled Madera “All-Stars” softball team made up of a cast of athletes ranging from a former mayor to a morning TV show personality.

While the All-Stars racked up 13 hits including two long bombs in a 12-0 six-inning victory over a Madera Bobby Sox All-Stars team mixed with numerous players from different divisions, everybody proved to be a winner Thursday morning at Lions Town and Country Park’s softball complex.

Along with the exhibition game, other celebratory pre-tournament events included a charitable “Dignitaries vs. Bobby Sox All-Stars” home run derby and a game that matched the Special Olympics athletes against Madera’s 6-U and 8-U teams all while being featured on KMPH’s Fox 26 “Great Day” Morning Show and KFSN ABC 30 Action News.

Bobby Sox All-Stars tournament play officially begins Saturday morning at 10 on all five softball fields while tonight’s opening ceremonies will recognize all the qualifying teams in six divisions (U6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 18) starting at 6 p.m. at Memorial Stadium...
