Bertoncini tosses one-hitter to lead Stallions to CMAC victory

Behind starting pitcher Donovan Bertoncini, the Madera South Stallions did just enough to pick up a 2-0 victory Friday over the Edison-Fresno Tigers to win the season series in County/Metro Athletic Conference action at Eddie Chapa Field.

Bertoncini tossed 114 pitches in the complete game shutout and struck out seven batters. He walked three and hit another batter.

“Donovan pitched lights out today,” head coach John Fernandez said. “His pitch count was a little higher than we wanted. He bowed his neck and did what he needed to do.”

“He had good command of his fastball,” pitching coach Mark Lohuis said. “We showed off-speed stuff early and went hard late. He was mixing his speed with his fastball. We were pitching away, but with two strikes, went in.” ...
