Bennett leads CMAC’s top diving teams

Lisa Bennett, the Madera Coyote diving coach for the last 20 years, is anything but boastful about her prolific career and the effect it’s had on the team’s continued success.

With the school’s top divers poised to take first place in today’s County/Metro Athletic Conference championships at 2 p.m. — Madera High’s first as host since it opened the renovated McAlister Aquatic Complex in 2011 — Bennett pointed out that most people don’t know she was a two-time Valley champion diver for the Coyotes in the early 80’s.

Not only that, she said most people didn’t know about her time as a professional diver across the United States and Canada.

“Nobody knows that,” Bennett said. “So that can’t be why we’ve swept the CMAC these past few years. I really feel it’s because of the team itself. They’re very dedicated … they’re out here all the time willing to learn, do their best and be their best. I appreciate that.”...
