Bears sweep Coyotes

The Madera Coyote boys volleyball team may not be the tallest team on the court, but it brings a lot of fight to the battle.

Although the Coyotes lost in three sets to the Buchanan Bears on Wednesday in Joe Flores Gym, they made the Bears work for it. The Bears won 25-16, 25-17 and 25-21.

“We can play some defense,” head coach Rhonda Jefferson said. “The thing that killed us was their quick offense. Buchanan was not used to having other teams get touches on their hits and we did that tonight.”

Although the Coyotes seemed overmatched in the first set, they were able to keep the ball in play enough to force the Bears into unforced errors. The Coyotes had just one kill in the set (from Daniel Barsotti), but trailed 16-12 at one point before the Bears closed the game on a 9-4 run...
