Babe Ruth All-Stars open regionals with a pair of victories

The Madera Babe Ruth 14-year-old All-Stars team started the Regional Tournament off by picking up two opening wins in pool play including an 5-3 victory and an 8-0 beating of Taylorsville-Northern Utah on Monday in Surprise, Ariz.

Madera will play tonight at 8 and Wednesday at 9 a.m.

In a shutout victory over Taylorsville, starting pitcher Chris Molina handled business on the mound. In three innings, Molina didn’t allow a hit and recorded six strikeouts with one walk.

Relief pitchers Uriel Conde, Isaac Rivera and Michael Alvarez threw in the final four innings and combined for two walks, one hit and five strikeouts...
