Babe Ruth 13s fall just short at State

The Madera Babe Ruth 13-year-old All-Stars fell one inning short of playing for the State Babe Ruth Championship in San Benito.

Madera lost the first and last game to State Champion Central Coast. In between, Madera dominated the competition, outscoring its opponents 59-8 and starting pitchers Michael Alvarez, Cameron Sexton, Isaac Rivera and Isaac Zapata allowed just two unearned runs.

After losing to Central Coast on July 13, Madera won four straight games before losing to Central Coast on Tuesday in the bottom of the seventh inning.

“We did pretty well,” said Frank Borges, 13-year-old coach and Babe Ruth president. “In the four years of coaching the 13-yearolds, this was the stiffest competition at state. Our kids are right there. We were one hit or one play away. Our offense and pitching were very good.” ...
