18’s head to TOC title game

For the Madera 18-under Bobby Sox All-Star team, it was an exciting way to win a game but for the Wahiawa-Hawaii team — it was a heartbreaking one to lose.

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning and a trip to the National Tournament of Champions title game on the line, Madera was trailing 3-2 with Gina Nevarez up to bat.

Nevarez sent a deep hit ball to left field that appeared to be the final out.

Just as the ball begin to settle into the left fielder’s glove, it popped out and allowed Amy Chavira to score the game-tying run while Nevarez came around after an overthrow to cross home plate and send Madera to the championship game in a dramatic 4-3 victory Sunday evening at Lions’ Town and Country Park...
