‘Stickler for the rules’ teaches fairness to Little League players

The way John Gray sees it, his last 22 years have all been for the kids. And Gray has had a chance to see a lot of kids — thousands of them — in the nearly quarter-century he has served as a volunteer for the Madera National Little League.

Now District 10 Little League administrator Gray, 45, is an operations supervisor for Simplot Growers Solutions during the day. But his volunteer work over the years has been almost like another full-time job.

“People just don’t realize how much work you put into it,” Gray said. “They do not understand the time and commitment.”

Gray, a divorced father of three, said balancing his commitments to family and the Little League has been very difficult...
