Sheriff updates shooting incident in Coarsegold

The Madera County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the shooting victim of an incident in Coarsegold earlier this week.

The MCSO identified 36-year-old Kirk Yeterian as the victim of an apparent self-defense shooting.


In mid-morning Monday, the sheriff’s office received an emergency call to report a shooting in the 35000 block of Douglas Trail in Coarsegold. Dispatch spoke with a man who indicated he had shot another man at the location in self defense.


When deputies arrived at the scene and made contact with the involved party, the deceased was discovered at the scene.


At this time, detectives believe the shooting was the result of a physical altercation between the two parties. Though initially detained, the male caller is not under arrest, at this time. He continues to be cooperative with the investigation and there is no ongoing threat to the public. His identity is being withheld pending the conclusion of the investigation.


The investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident remains ongoing, and the case will be forwarded to the Madera County District Attorney’s Office for review. Further details will be released as the investigation progresses.
