Drive Thru Trick or Treat returns

For The Madera Tribune

Participants in the Madera Fair Drive Thru Trick or Treat event will receive a telescoping net to receive treats from the many booths along the path at the fairgrounds.

The Madera District Fair opens its grounds, in partnership with Madera County Food Bank, for the popular Drive Thru Trick or Treat, which will be held Oct. 31 from 5-9 p.m.

What developed as a socially safe event serving the community in 2020 has potentially gained interest as an annual event with the second edition happening in just a couple of weeks. The Madera Fair office has taken numerous messages and calls asking for the return of 2020’s family friendly event to get their kids out for a safe night of trick or treating this year.

The trick or treat event is $10 per vehicle, which includes up to five extending nets for kids 12 and under upon entrance. Vehicle passes go on sale Oct. 15 at maderafair.com/halloween. Two ticketed time slots are available for vehicle passes, 5 to 7 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. and are limited in quantity.

As in 2020, businesses, clubs, schools, residents will fill the route with decorated booths and spaces, serving up the sweets to trick or treaters passing by. It was said in the inaugural year, that more fun was had giving than receiving. The great news is Madera Fair has both giving and receiving opportunities for the community. Interested groups and individuals can contact Madera Fair or visit maderfair.com/halloween for decorated booth and space information and simple application.

In addition to the ticketed trick or treat event, the grounds will be host to a local food truck area, for eating great food under the cool fall night. The free and open space, set with lighting and seating for friends and family to gather together, runs from 4 to 10 p.m. Interested Food Truck vendors can visit maderfair.com/halloween for details and an application as well.
