MNLL All-Stars done after second loss

After winning a District 10 championship and a Section 7 title, the Madera National Little League 10-12-year-old All-Star team’s run ended after two straight losses in the NorCal State Championships in Castro Valley.

Madera National opened the tournament with a tough 9-7 loss to Sunnyvale on Sunday and then dropped a 13-3 game to San Mateo on Tuesday.

Sunnyvale scored a run in the first, another in the second and put the game away with seven more in the third before inducing the 10-run mercy rule with two unearned runs in the sixth.

Madera National was plagued by errors throughout the game. They committed five errors, which resulted in six unearned runs. Madera National pitchers also gave up three home runs, including a three-run shot to the San Mateo No. 9 batter.

Joel Arellano led Madera National with a double and a solo home run. Isaiah Sanchez recorded two hits. Mason Roberts hit a two-run home run and Mark Huarte had a single and a double.

However, Madera National’s top three batters produced five hits, but only one run.

Madera National got a single from Sanchez and a double from Arellano in the first, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat.

Sanchez and Paul Stroemer singled in the third, but another strikeout ended the rally.

In the fourth, Huarte led off with a single, but he was forced out at second by Elias Sablan.

Mason Roberts came off the bench and hit the first pitch he saw over the fence for a two-run home run.

Arellano led off the top of the fifth with a solo home run, but that was all for the Madera National All-Stars.
