Second no-hitter sends Madera National to semis

Madera National’s Zachary Sanchez scores the final run in a 10-0 victory over Madera American.

 

After a dominating victory in the opening game of the District 10 9-11-year-old All-Star Tournament, Madera National recorded a 10-0 victory over Madera American to advance to the semifinals. 

 

Madera National pitchers Jeevan Bains and Adam Ornelas combined on a four-inning no-hitter Monday for the team’s second straight no-hitter after beating Reedley 20-0 on Sunday. 

 

Eric Nelson and Ezekiel Reyes each had two hits in the eight-hit attack. They also took advantage of 10 walks from Madera American pitchers. 

 

Nelson allowed two baserunners in the first three innings. He hit the first batter he faced, Freddy Garcia, and the he advanced to third on a wild pitch. However, Nelson struck out two of the next three batters to get out of the inning. 

 

In the third, Alonzo Del Toro walked with one out, but was thrown out trying to steal second. 

Madera National scored a run in the first, but exploded for eight runs in the third. 

 

Nelson led off the first with a walk. Reyes forced him at second. Reyes advanced to third on wild pitches. Christian Guerrero and Ornelas drew walks to load the bases. Bains drew another walk to force in Reyes. 

 

Madera American pitcher Keith Harris struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning. 

 

Harris kept it up with a strikeout in the second, but back-to-back walks took him out of the game. Carlos Pimentel came in and got Reyes to line out to second. After a walk, Pimentel struck out the next batter to end the inning. 

 

In the third, Madera National sent 13 batters to the plate. A popout opened the inning. 

 

Nuzayh Granados started the rally with a walk. He stole second and third. Ricardo Garcia drew a walk and stole second. Davion Pino drew another walk to load the bases. 

 

Ethan Laird singled up the middle to drive in Granados and Garcia. Nelson followed with a double to right field to drive in Pino and Laird. Reyes singed home Nelson. After Reyes stole second, Guerroero singled up the middle to drive in Reyes. 

 

Ornelas reached on an error to put runners at second and third. Guerrero scored on a wild pitch and Ornelas scored when Bains reached on an error for a 9-0 lead. 

 

Zachary Sanchez opened the bottom of the fourth with a single up the middle. He went to second on a single by Nelson. Reyes then hit a single to left field and Sanchez scored to end the game with a 10-0 victory.
