Madera National pitcher Theran van Loon throws a pitch during a no-hitter against Sierra Mountain. Madera National advanced to the next round with a 17-0 victory.
The Madera National 7-10-year-old All-Star team needed just three innings to put away the Sierra Mountain All-Stars in the District 10 Tournament.
Madera National scored nine runs in the first and eight runs in the second and put away Sierra Mountain early with a 17-0 win.
Madera National lost Wednesday to River Park Navy and hosted Reedley on Thursday. A win sends them into the consolation semifinals on Friday.
Theran van Loon tossed a no-hitter with six strikeouts over the three innings. He walked the bases loaded in the first, but got out of the inning without any damage.
Madera National took advantage of eight Sierra Mountain errors that led to 10 unearned runs, but also banged out 12 hits.
Jace Rios led Madera National with three hits. He scored two runs and drove in two. Anthony Bursey had two hits with two runs scored and two RBIs. Ryan Atherton was 2-for-2 with three runs scored, two RBIs and a double. Josh Contreras added two runs.
Van Loon got the first batter of the game to ground out back to him. However, he walked the next two batters before a strikeout. After another walk, van Loon got out of the inning with another strikeout.
He closed the game by retiring the finals five batters in order with four strikeouts.
Bursey led off the bottom of the first with a single. He went came all the way around the bases on three wild pitches. Atherton followed with a four-pitch walk. He came around to score on an error.
After a groundout, Contreras reched on an error. He went to second on a wild pitch and to thrird on van Loon’s single to left. Josiah Mejia reached on an error while Contreras scored.
Rios singled home van Loon. Jaydon Roman drew a walk before a strikeout. Bursey followed with a single up the middle to drive in rios and Roman. Atherton singled home Bursey and went all the way around the bases when the right fielder misplayed the ball for a 9-0 lead.
Madera National sent 14 batters to the plate in the bottom of the second inning. Contreras led it off with a walk. Aiden Juarez singled on a 3-0 pitch.
A wild pitch scored Contreras and Juarez scored on a single by Rios for an 11-0 lead.
After a strikeout, Dom Garcia singled home Rios. Aiden Moles reached on an error while Garcia scored on the play. Atherton doubled home Bursey. Atherton then went to third and scored on two wild pitches.
Joshua Sandoval reached on an error. Atherton scored on a wild pitch and Contreras singled.
After a strikeout, Gomez reached on an error while Sandoval scored. Rios singled to load the bases, but the next batter was retired for a 17-0 lead.
Van Loon retired the side in order in the top of the third to invoke the 15-run mercy rule.
