The Madera Police Department is requesting the public’s help in locating the vehicle that struck and killed 69-year-old Rutilio Reyes in a hit and run collision as he walked across Cleveland Avenue at D Street in the crosswalk, early in the morning of Sunday, May 12.

Police believe he was struck about 12:30 am by a newer, four-door Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck they have identified from area surveillance cameras, and think it is dark metallic blue or gray in color.

Reyes, who lived in the area, was struck and thrown about 130 feet from the crosswalk and died at the scene. Anyone with information on the fatal incident or the whereabouts of the vehicle is asked to call Madera police detective Rosel at 675-4243.

The vehicle will likely have significant front end damage and possibly damage to the mirrors and or windshield.

Crime Stoppers pays up to $2,000 cash as reward for anonymous tips resulting in an arrest and conviction in a crime, called into their tip line at 498-STOP.
