The weekend of May 5 resulted in 16 arrests for drunken driving in the city and county of Madera, according to authorities.
The California Highway Patrol reported eight arrests for DUI, and one traffic fatality.
The Madera Police Department conducted a saturation enforcement event over the weekend and also made eight arrests for DUI. Sgt. Mark Trukki said the weekend was, however, largely quiet and uneventful, with most residents celebrating responsibly.
A few calls for illegal fireworks were noted, though.
