For The Madera Tribune

Madera police officers arrest Moses McGuire, 18, of Madera at gunpoint on State Route 99 Tuesday after spotting him driving a red, four-door 2010 Hyundai Elantra that had been reported stolen out of Madera recently. His mother was also briefly taken into custody for interfering with officers on the side of SR 99. She was later released.

A car reported stolen in Madera was recovered Tuesday in a felony traffic stop on southbound State Route 99, just south of the 4th Street overpass, according to The Madera Police Department.

Madera police officers arrested Moses McGuire, 18, of Madera after spotting him about noon driving the red four door 2010 Hyundai Elantra on city streets. His mother, Irma Huerta, who had pulled over in another car was also briefly taken into custody during the traffic stop after becoming combative and interfering with officers on the side of the busy highway as her son was being arrested.

The heavy traffic on southbound SR 99 slowed as motorists watched the police instruct McGuire, a known gang member, to raise his hands and exit the vehicle at gunpoint.

Police had briefly seen the stolen Hyundai the day before, knew it was in the Madera area and had been on the lookout for it.

McGuire is facing felony charges for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and is being held in lieu of $10,000 in bail.
