Madera South catcher Anthony Gamiz places the tag on Bullard’s Mark Topoozian for a fifth inning out.

In addition to playing one of the toughest teams in the County/Metro Athletic Conference, the Madera South Stallions gave the Bullard Knights 12 free baserunners in a 10-3 loss at Eddie Chapa Field.

Starting pitcher Seth Goodrich walked four and hit four batters in giving up six runs in 2 1/3 innings Tuesday afternoon. Bryan Malagon walked one and gave up one run in 1 1/3 innings. Ivan Villafan walked two and hit a batter in giving up three runs on two hits in 3 1/3 innings.

The Knights scored in six of the seven innings while waiting out a 15-minute rain delay in the first inning.

The Stallions banged out three runs on five hits, but it wasn’t enough to keep up with the Knights. Lead-off batter A.J. Ramos led the Stallions with two hits and scored two runs.

The game started underneath a cloud of rain that, ultimately, led to a 15-minute rain delay. The rain could have hindered Goodrich with footing when he walked two batters and hit another to force in the first run of the ball game.

Madera South answered back to take the early lead. Rocha led off the first with a single to right. After Jalen Gray walked, Murf Gray forced his brother at second, but Rocha advanced to third.

Gray stole second with Chris Jones at the plate. After Jones was retired, Goodrich singled up the middle to drive in Rocha and Gray for a 2-1 lead.

Bullard quickly came back to re-claim the lead. A hit batter and walk, followed by an error and a single drove in two runs for a 3-2 lead.

The Knights added three more runs in the third. After getting the first out, Goodrich allowed a double and two singles to load the bases before he was relieved. The Knights greeted Malagon with a walk and a two-run single for a 6-2 lead.

Madera South added another run in the third. With one out, Rocha singled up the middle and he came around to score on Jalen Gray’s triple to the right-centerfield gap.

However, Gray was stranded after a strikeout and a groundout.

The Stallions put up one more threat in the sixth after two hit batters and a single. However a groundout ended the inning.

The Knights added a run in the fourth, another in the fifth and two more in the seventh for the victory.
